When your TPMS light comes on, one (or more!) of your tires may be under-inflated. Or the light could be alerting you to an issue with the TPMS system.
No matter what’s going on, our tire techs can take a look at your tires and TPMS system to figure out what’s wrong and find a solution.
Blinking vs. Solid TPMS Light
The TPMS symbol looks like a cross-section of a flat tire with an exclamation point in the middle. Some vehicles also illuminate the letters “TPMS.”
If the TPMS light is solid, then one or more tires are at least 25% below the recommended tire pressure and need to be inflated. The light should turn off on its own once your tires are at the correct pressure.
If the TPMS light flashes for 60-90 seconds when you start the car and then stays solid for the rest of your drive, then something is wrong with the TPMS system, not your tires.
Typical causes of a blinking TPMS light include:
- Dead TPMS sensor battery
- Damaged or missing TPMS sensor
- Damaged tire valve
- Malfunctioning internal electronics
- TPMS reset procedure not performed correctly
TPMS Service
When you bring your car to Virginia Tire & Auto for TPMS service, our automotive experts go through the following steps:
- Checking the tire pressure
- Testing the TPMS sensors to determine if any need to be replaced
- Removing and replacing any TPMS sensors, if needed
- Resetting the sensors
- Replacing the TPMS Service Kit (includes the valve core, cap, nut and O-ring) if needed
The cost of this service will depend on whether your vehicle needs a TPMS Service Kit, a TPMS reset and/or a TPMS sensor replacement.
You need to get a TPMS reset and a new Service Kit every time you replace or remount your tires. A TPMS reset comes with all new tires as part of our tires& package, and TPMS Service Kits are just $9.95/tire.
