Julie Holmes

Julie is committed to carrying on the legacy that her father and mother created more than 45 years ago when they founded the company. Julie grew up in Fairfax, graduating from W.T. Woodson High School, and then obtained a B.S. from Washington & Lee University’s business program and a law degree from Villanova University’s Law School. Julie clerked for Hon. H. Emory Widener, Jr., on the U.S. Court of Appeals and was an associate in the corporate and real estate departments at Covington & Burling LLP before returning to Virginia Tire & Auto in 2010.

As Co-CEO, Julie focuses on employee and program development, marketing and communications, and corporate governance. She serves on the Foundation for Applied Technical Education, Inc. (FATE) board as well as advisory boards for local high school programs. Believing strongly in equal opportunities for women and recognizing the low numbers of women in the auto industry, Julie is a vocal champion of bringing women into the auto repair industry. With five children (four of them girls), she wants to make sure everyone has equal opportunity.

Myron & Carole

The story of Virginia Tire & Auto started when Julie’s parents, Myron and Carole, met and married in 1966. After working in marketing at Texaco for 10 years, Myron dreamed of opening his own business. After backing out of several opportunities, Carole finally pushed him over the threshold when the chance came to own Main Street Shell. She said, “Myron, it sounds like you’ll be very successful. If you don’t do it, do me a favor—quit talking about it!”

From the beginning, Myron set his service station apart by keeping it clean, operating with integrity and treating customers with kindness. Carole eventually left her job at World Bank to partner with Myron; Myron ran the day-to-day operations at the station and Carole ran the behind-the-scenes at the office (she even worked from the hospital when Julie was born!).

Through their hard work and commitment to quality service, they added multiple full-service gas stations and tire and auto repair centers, laying the groundwork for what is now Virginia Tire & Auto, Northern Virginia’s premier one-stop shop for car care.
