What Does My Vehicle’s Transmission Do?
In order to generate enough energy to move your car, your engine’s internal components must rotate very quickly. The transmission system adapts that rotational energy for your wheels so that energy is used efficiently. Over time, this important system requires tune-ups to keep it functioning properly. Transmission repairs can be costly, so stay on top of this maintenance with Virginia Tire & Auto.

How Do Car Transmissions Work?
Modern car transmissions have many gears inside them to deliver the right amount of power at the right time to the car wheels. Based on which gear your car is in, your car can operate at different speeds efficiently. Without the transmission, your car would not move as efficiently, and it would lose fuel economy.
Types of Transmissions
There are two types of transmissions in cars. They either have a manual or an automatic transmission. Manual transmissions rely on the driver shifting through the different gears by hand using a stick-shifter and pressing a clutch pedal. It’s up to the driver when the car shifts gears.
In an automatic transmission, the gear shifting is controlled by a torque converter in the bell housing of the transmission, so the driver does not have to shift the vehicle manually. These transmissions are more common as they are easier to operate than a manual transmission.
Transmissions are complex systems that require regular maintenance to keep in top shape. If you need your transmission serviced, take your car to the transmission experts at Virginia Tire & Auto. We will take care of you and your vehicle.
