Exhaust System Repair

You start your car and hear loud noises and rattling coming from your muffler. Or maybe you notice the pungent smell of exhaust. These are symptoms of an ailing exhaust system. Not only are these symptoms annoying, but they can also significantly impact the efficiency of your vehicle. If you notice any of these changes, bring your vehicle to Virginia Tire & Auto today and we can give you the help you need.

What makes the exhaust system important?

The exhaust system is responsible for moving harmful fumes out of your vehicle after engine combustion. It also filters those exhaust fumes for pollution, reducing the amount of harmful compounds that are released into the atmosphere. As you drive, your car’s engine burns fuel and powers the vehicle. Once that fuel is used, it leaves exhaust gases that need to be filtered and expelled from the vehicle. These exhaust gases flow out of the engine to the catalytic converter. The catalytic converter has chemicals inside of it that convert particles of the exhaust gases to a less harmful gas. This is helpful for reducing carbon emissions, and it makes cars more environmentally friendly.

When the exhaust system functions correctly, it keeps your car safe and running efficiently. Your car has sensors built into the exhaust system which measure the fuel burn in your engine. These sensors communicate with the other components in your engine to ensure the best fuel-to-air ratio, which gives you the best fuel economy. This allows your gas mileage to stay down and your fill-ups at the gas pump to last longer.

Whether you are preparing for your biennial Virginia Emissions Inspection or are experiencing the sounds and smells of an exhaust system problem, the ASE Certified Technicians at Virginia Tire & Auto are highly trained in inspecting and repairing exhaust systems.
