Think Big For Kids
Virginia Tire & Auto is a partner with the Fairfax chapter of Think Big for Kids, a national non-profit with a mission to break the cycle of poverty among teens and young adults by preparing them to excel in today’s workforce. We visit approximately 5 middle schools each year throughout northern Virginia to showcase the career opportunities in the automotive industry and especially the roles that women can play in auto repair organizations both in the bays and in the office.
Women In Trades Lunch & Learn
Co-CEO Julie Holmes is passionate about expanding the role of women in the auto care industry through a variety of outlets, which include being the primary sponsor of Manassas City Public Schools (MCPS) Women in Trades Lunch & Learn series. This monthly gathering of female students from MCPS gives them the chance to meet and speak with representatives from local companies about career opportunities where training is provided, and they can learn on the job skills to help them grow their career in different trade industries.
Supporting Local Groups with Auto Maintenance Training
Training is a huge foundation at Virginia Tire & Auto for our employees but also something we can give back to the community. We routinely hold mini training sessions with groups such as auto tech classes from local schools, Girl Scout troops and Boy Scout troops. These training sessions give students the chance to get hand-on general car lessons to help prepare them for when they are drivers as well as earning badges. They visit our training center and are able to change tires, refill fluids and learn about general car maintenance.
