Tire Protection Plan
Our Tire Protection Plan is an add-on tire warranty that includes:
- Free flat tire repair for the usable life of the tire (tires are considered worn out when the tread is less than 2/32″).
- Tire replacement coverage if your tire gets damaged during the first three years of ownership.
We suggest combining this plan with our tires& bundle, which covers most of the typical tire maintenance needs during ownership and is included with every tire purchase at Virginia Tire & Auto.
Why do I need an additional tire warranty?
Tires that you buy from us come with a standard warranty from the tire manufacturer that covers the workmanship of the tire and the normal wear and tear of everyday driving.
Our TPP picks up where the manufacturer’s limited warranty leaves off. It covers road hazard damage from all the road debris out there just waiting to ruin your day—hazards such as potholes, nails, glass or jagged metals.
How does the flat tire coverage work?
If the tire is damaged during the usable life* of the tire and the tire can be repaired according to Tire Industry Association (TIA) guidelines, Virginia Tire & Auto will fix it for free.
*The usable life of a tire is determined by its tire tread depth. Once the tire’s tread depth is less than 2/32″, it is no longer considered usable.
How does the tire replacement coverage work if my tires are damaged beyond repair?
If the tire is damaged and cannot be repaired, we offer time-based coverage for three years.
- Year 1: Free tire replacement
- Year 2: Coverage for 50% of replacement tire cost
- Year 3: Coverage for 25% of replacement tire cost
We always cover the cost to mount and rebalance the replacement tire, plus disposal, tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) charges and other miscellaneous fees. The customer is only responsible for appropriate taxes.
What should I do if I have a damaged tire?
If your tire is damaged, simply visit any of our convenient Virginia Tire & Auto locations. We will look up your history and view your purchase of the TPP program.
If you have tire damage within the first 36 months and are not within 50 miles of a Virginia Tire & Auto, you can get your tire fixed at a different auto repair shop and bring us the receipt, and we will reimburse you for the cost.
What is not covered?
Tire damage due to or resulting from the following are not covered:
- Overloading, improper inflation or misuse
- Theft, vandalism or accidents
- Abuse, improper maintenance or misalignment
- Sidewall abrasions or cosmetic appearance
- Installation on racing or off-road vehicles
- Faulty mechanical conditions of the vehicle
- Commercial vehicle use—including driving for Uber, Lyft or any other ride-sharing company
How much does it cost?
The cost of TPP is determined by the price and size of the tire you purchased. For standard tires, it is $11/tire or 11% of the cost of the tire, whichever is greater. For low-profile tires (aspect ratio of 40 or less), it is $21/tire or 21% of the cost of the tire, whichever is greater.
Details of Coverage:
Term: The tire replacement coverage extends for a term of 36 months from the TPP purchase date on your original invoice, or until any part of the tire tread that comes in contact with the road has a tread depth less than 2/32″, whichever comes first. The flat tire coverage expires when any part of the tire tread that comes in contact with the road has a tread depth less than 2/32″.
Covered Tire: If the tire covered by the TPP is replaced for any reason, the coverage for that tire ceases. A new TPP must be purchased for the replacement tire to receive TPP coverage. If you have tire damage within the first 36 months and are not within 50 miles of a Virginia Tire & Auto, then you can take your tire to a different auto repair shop. Bring us the receipt, and we will reimburse you for the cost of the repair or replacement.
Flat Tire Repair: To repair a flat tire under the TPP, the tire must be able to be repaired safely per the tire manufacturer and/or Rubber Manufacturers’ Association guidelines. The TPP will remain in effect for the repaired tire for the remainder of the tire.
Replacement Tire: If the tire cannot be repaired, the tire will be replaced with the exact make/model of tire, if available. If not available, a tire of comparable quality and price will be installed (to be determined at the discretion of Virginia Tire & Auto). Mounting and balancing of the replaced tire, TPMS, tire disposal and other miscellaneous fees will not be charged.
