Emergency Car Kit: What Should It Consist Of?

As the winter weather approaches, it’s important to be prepared. Accidents, breakdowns or other winter events can mean unexpected time in your car. Putting together an Emergency Car Kit will give you peace of mind and resources in the event that you should need them.

Here is a checklist of things to gather and store in your car:

  • Flashlight (with extra batteries)
  • Blankets
  • Nonperishable snacks
  • Bottles of water
  • Waterproof gloves
  • First Aid kit
  • Cell phone charger
  • Ice scraper, snowbrush and small shovel
  • Jumper cables
  • Flares
  • Bag of kitty litter

Before traveling, be sure to have a full tank of gas and check:

  • The tires
  • Windshield wipers
  • Defroster
  • Heat

If you happen to get stuck or stranded, stay in your car, put on your flashers and make a phone call for help.
