Tire Rotation: Why Is It Important?

Rotating your vehicle’s tires is a fundamental part of tire maintenance. Your tires are the only contact between your vehicle and the road. Regular tire rotation improves the performance of your tires and helps distribute tire wear evenly, extending the life of your tires and ultimately saving you money.

What makes tire rotation important?

Most vehicles have the engine in front, bearing more weight on the front tires than the rear. Front tires also tend to wear faster than rear tires due to added steering pressure and resistance. Your driving style and the condition of your suspension can also cause tires to wear differently, depending on their position on the vehicle.

Routine tire rotations are required by most tire manufacturers to maintain the Tread Wear Warranty. Before rotating your tires, the Rubber Manufacturers Association suggests referring to your vehicles owner’s manual for rotation recommendations. If no rotation period is specified, tires should be rotated approximately every 5,000 miles. However, rotate your tires sooner if irregular wear develops; damage from incidents like hitting a pothole or curb may create uneven tire wear.

Why should I get my tires rotated at Virginia Tire & Auto?

Regularly rotating your tires helps maintain safety,  achieve even tread wear and maintain long tread life. This simple maintenance will assist you in getting the most miles out of your tires, improving your car’s handling and amplifying traction on all four wheels.

At Virginia Tire & Auto, a tire rotation includes removing the tires, inspecting the wear patterns, rotating the tires in accordance with the correct rotation pattern, resetting the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) as applicable and a visual brake inspection.
