Cold Weather Gas Saving Tips

Ready or not, winter weather is coming. We’ve offered some great advice to prepare your car for the winter weather. Cold weather affects your vehicle in a variety of ways, including your gas mileage. Here are some tips to save on gas:

  • Park your car in a warmer place. If you have a garage, use it. If there’s an area on your street or parking lot that gets direct sun, park there
  • Plan your errands and events efficiently so that you drive less with a cold engine
  • Minimize idling your car to warm it up. The engine will warm up faster while driving, which will flow the heat, decrease your fuel costs, and reduce emissions
  • Don’t use seat warmers or defrosters more than necessary
  • Check your tire pressure regularly. Low or high pressure can reduce gas mileage
  • Discuss with your Virginia Tire & Auto mechanic about cold weather oil options
  • If you drive a plug-in hybrid or electric vehicle, preheat the car while plugged into the charger to extend your vehicle’s driving distance

Virginia Tire and Auto hopes these tips allow you to save money during the Holiday season. For more auto savings, you can click HERE.
