Alignment Check

Not sure whether you need an alignment or not? Get your alignment checked first to determine if something is misaligned.

Our technicians will check your steering and suspension systems, tire pressure and tire condition to determine if they are affecting your alignment.

Then, we will use cutting-edge technology from Hunter Engineering to precisely measure the camber, toe and caster angles of your vehicle’s wheels.

Camber – The inward or outward angle of the tire when viewed from the front.
Toe – The inward or outward angle of the tire when viewed from above.
Caster – The angle of the steering axis when viewed from the side.

We’ll provide a printout of your tires’ alignment as well as a recommendation for whether or not you need an alignment.

What is the difference between four-wheel and front-end alignments?

Back in the day, cars’ wheel alignment could only be set for the front set of wheels, so it was called a front-end alignment. Most modern vehicles, however, have four-wheel independent suspension, which allows for all four wheels to be aligned.

The exception is light- or heavy-duty trucks, which typically have a solid, non-adjustable rear axle.

At Virginia Tire & Auto, our computerized alignment service is everything you need, whether all your vehicle’s wheels can be adjusted or just the front two.

What can cause my car to go out of alignment?

Running over potholes, bumping something hard, or running into a curb with too much force are common reasons for an alignment issue.

A driving mishap isn’t always the cause of an alignment problem, though. Age and normal use can damage your car’s suspension over time, causing your tires to slowly lose their alignment.

How can I tell that my car needs an alignment?

Here are a few signs that your car needs an alignment:

  • Your vehicle pulls/drifts left or right
  • Vibrating steering wheel
  • Off-centered steering wheel
  • Uneven tire wear

How often should I get my wheels aligned?

A good rule of thumb is to get the alignment checked every 12,000-15,000 miles or once a year. We also recommended getting an alignment anytime you install new tires or have suspension work done.

How long does an alignment take?

An alignment generally takes a technician 40–60 minutes to complete.
